OUR CO-OP.

Our values.

Hardworking Alaskans want a future where we make our own energy - an independent, homegrown future that keeps our energy dollars local and grows great job opportunities here at home.

We're Mark Wiggin and Sam Cason and we're fighting for that future. We hope to earn your vote for re-election to the Chugach Electric Board of Directors. As your representatives on the Chugach Electric Board, we've been putting community voices at the heart of decision making. We're listening to members, running the math on our options with the community, and building common sense solutions that honor our values.

Thank you for being an engaged member of our wonderful Chugach Electric Association. You can learn more about our vision, past service, and how to vote below.

Reliable and cost-effective electric power is an essential component of maintaining a stable community and robust economy.”

Mark Wiggin

As supplies of inexpensive locally produced Natural Gas run low we must re-imagine our local energy infrastructure. I view this as a generational opportunity to move towards a sustainable and prosperous future for our system, our economy, and our kids.”

I understand the complexities of the energy landscape today, and will utilize my professional experience in both the public and private sectors, ranging from resource management to regulatory policy and engineering, to shape our energy future.

My public sector tenure as Alaska DNR Deputy Commissioner, my tenure on many non-profit boards, and my involvement in Anchorage’s electrical utility sector reinforces my belief in the pivotal role renewable energies must play powering our future.

As we navigate towards a sustainable tomorrow, I am passionate about leveraging my expertise to advocate for renewable generation on the Chugach Electric Board, ensuring not only reliable and cost-effective power but also a greener, more resilient future for our communities and economy.

Sam Cason is a self-employed attorney with over 20 years of experience in Chugach governance. He was born and raised in Homer, where he and his brothers still have family property.

Like many Alaska kids seeking adventure, he went outside to college and earned degrees in Chemistry and Law at the University of Arkansas. That is also where he met his wife Jackie, whom he brought home to Alaska in 1992; they settled and raised three sons in Anchorage.

Sam has a long history of community involvement, and has served as PTA treasurer for Denali Elementary, as a Director on the Anchorage Jr. Nordic Board, as President of the Anchorage Inn of Court, as Director and President of the Board of Anchorage Universal Unitarian Fellowship, and coaching Jr. Nordic.

Energy

Alaskans want a future where we generate our own energy, harvesting the resources we have here at home. Sam and Mark believe in that vision and are already taking steps to get us there.

With potential shortfalls in the local supply of natural gas forecast as soon as 2028, Sam and Mark are working collaboratively with the rest of the Board and other stakeholders to reduce long term dependency on natural gas.

During their service, Mark and Sam have supported staff in efforts to diversify our options with utility scale wind and solar projects online, directed staff to install solar panels at Chugach facilities, and supported a Renewable Portfolio Standard.
